Instructor: Rahul Mehrotra and Martha Chen. Teaching Assistant: Nupoor Monani
Course: Livelihoods and Urban Form: Mumbai in a Comparative Perspective
Students: Rob Wellburn, Wen Wen, Sanjay Kumar, Jenna Harvey

This research project is aimed at encouraging students to use case study material presented in class to reflect on debates and issues raised in the seminars. Students select an activity or sector in the informal economy of Mumbai and spatialize its networks throughout the city across the various scales at which these networks exist. Areas of research range across the sectors of: construction, waste management (including recycling), home-based small scale manufacturing, street or cart-vending of fresh produce, mobile vendors at traffic intersections, and delivery services. Students work in teams of two or three, such that each team has a balance of design and policy focused interests.
