Valerie Scott

Valerie Scott is a third-year PhD student in Population Health Sciences at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research is focused on improving maternal and child health outcomes, with a particular interest in infectious disease. As a Harvard Mellon Urban Initiative fellow, Valerie is conducting research on the potential uptake of a dengue vaccine and impact on vector control behaviors for Aedes aegypti in Brazil. Before coming to Harvard, Valerie worked in close collaboration with Ministries of Health on policies, programs, and research to support their malaria control and elimination goals. In Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Namibia she worked with the Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI) at the University of California, San Francisco on research to evaluate malaria elimination strategies and tailor interventions to high malaria risk populations. Previously, Valerie worked with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) to improve access to high quality, affordable malaria diagnosis and treatment in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. She holds an MSPH in Population, Family, and Reproductive Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a BA in English Literature and International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
