Jonathan Karp

Jonathan Karp is a PhD candidate in American Studies at Harvard University, where he researches protest and performance in the United States from the 20th century to the present. With the support of the Harvard Mellon Urban Initiative, Jonathan is writing a chapter of his dissertation on the East St. Louis Pogrom of 1917. Bringing performance studies to the visual and textual archives of the pogrom, the chapter shows the centrality of racial violence, migration, and labor to expressions of modern subjectivity.
