Eduarda Araujo
Eduarda Araujo is a doctoral student in African and African American Studies, with a primary field in History. A student affiliate of the Afro-Latin American Research Institute at Harvard’s Hutchins Center, Eduarda is interested in the history of urban space in Latin America, and its relationship to hierarchies of class, race, and gender within a transatlantic context. Her research investigates the ways in which Africans and their descendants constructed, appropriated, and transformed urban spaces into alternative geographies of freedom in nineteenth-century Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has earned her undergraduate degree in Africana Studies at Brown University (2015), where her research focused on the effects of urban policies leading to the 2014 and 2016 mega-sports events on Rio de Janeiro’s Port Zone.
