Adrian Hackney is a rising sophomore at Harvard College, concentrating in Social Anthropology and Government with a secondary in Economics. He is passionate about understanding the social, political, and economic structures that undergird societies around the globe. He often studies these systems through the lens of inequality, focusing on how disparities and power manifest themselves. This summer, he will continue this exploration as an HMUI Undergraduate Fellow in the [Archive of Urban and Environmental Futures](/archive-urban-futures) and Research Assistant for the Harvard Undergraduate Center for the Environment. He will work with Professor Bruno Carvalho to study past perspectives on the future, especially with respect to the impact of urbanization on the environment in the Amazon and the United States. When examining how such expectations developed and compared with reality, he plans to again employ the lens of inequality. Outside of academics, Adrian is the Vice President of Media and Retail for the Harvard Undergraduate BGLTQ+ Business Society and an Associate for Consulting on Business and the Environment. He has also dedicated himself to educating youth from under-resourced backgrounds in subjects ranging from English to visual arts, especially within the greater Boston community where he lives. In his free time, he enjoys fashion and printmaking.
