**“Hack-A-House 2021”** is an online, 24-hour “hackathon”-style competition that will start on **Friday, September 24** and continue through **Saturday, September 25**. Hosted by [Ivory Innovations](https://ivory-innovations.org/) and co-sponsored by the Joint Center for Housing Studies and others, this is a nationwide competition in which students from around the country – working individually or in teams – have 24 hours to develop an innovative solution to a problem related to housing affordability. The top entries in three categories – Finance, Policy & Regulatory Reform, and Construction & Design -- will each receive a $3,000 prize; one other entry will receive a $1,000 prize. Last year, a team of four master in urban planning students at GSD won one of these prizes for a proposal on how to “[convert excess parking to affordable manufactured housing in a post-COVID world](https://www.gsd.harvard.edu/2020/12/urban-planning-students-win-grand-prize-in-affordable-housing-hackathon/).”

More information, including how to register is online at <https://www.jchs.harvard.edu/calendar/hack-house-2021>. While students can form their own teams, students interested in joining or forming a team also can contact me directly at [david\_luberoff@harvard.edu](mailto:david_luberoff@harvard.edu).
