Counter-mapping: Documenting Urban Spaces in Visual Poetry
In this poetry workshop, we will investigate visual forms of representing urban spaces at the intersection of poetry and cartography. Grounded in the textual/visual analysis of works from the Latin American avant-garde, concrete poetry, documentary poetry, and critical cartography, we will excavate accumulations of power in urban spaces in order to respond to ordinary violences, propose different dynamics with space, and plot new narratives. A central element of our ethics is making transparent the orientation and body of the artist within historical and spatial environments by engaging practices to perceive more amply our positionality and present. This workshop is designed for poets to integrate new tools, literary traditions, and spatial and ethical orientations in their practice, and to develop an investigative project about a place with which they are in relation. Contramapeo: Documentar Espacios Urbanos en Poesía Visual
En este taller de poesía, investigaremos formas visuales de representar espacios urbanos en la intersección de poesía y cartografía. Basades en el análisis textual/visual de obras de la vanguardia histórica latinoamericana, la poesía concreta, la poesía documental y la cartografía crítica, excavaremos en acumulaciones de poder en espacios urbanos para responder a violencias comunes, proponer diferentes dinámicas con el lugar y trazar nuevas narrativas. Un elemento central de nuestra ética es hacer transparente la orientación y el cuerpo del artista dentro de entornos históricos y espaciales mediante la participación de prácticas para percibir de forma más amplia nuestra posicionalidad y el presente. Este taller está diseñado para poetas interesados en integrar nuevas herramientas, tradiciones poéticas y orientaciones espaciales y éticas en su práctica, y desarrollar un proyecto de investigación con un lugar con el que estén en relación.
